Baghdad: The Chairman of the Communications and Media Commission, Ali Al-Muayyad, hosted a meeting at the Commission’s headquarters in Baghdad with Steve Lutes, Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the US-Iraq Business Council.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on the significant transformations occurring in Iraq, notably the urban revolution and advancements in infrastructure. The session also highlighted the Iraqi media’s growth since 2003, marked by an increase in media institutions, and recognized Iraq’s media as a regional exemplar.

Discussion points included the strategic role of the communications and technology sector in bolstering Iraq’s economy, noted as the second-largest resource after oil. The Commission’s resources have reportedly tripled over the past two years, underscoring this sector’s economic impact.

Al-Muayyad and Lutes emphasized the value of American technological presence in Iraq, which could enhance the national economy, modernize technologies, and develop technological infrastructure. They also explored ways to facilitate Iraqi private sector investments in the U.S., aiming for robust economic and technological cooperation.

The meeting further explored collaboration prospects with American firms to advance Iraq’s digital economy. This includes strengthening technological infrastructure and supporting the development of regulations and legislation to serve the private sector, amidst rapid digitization and communication developments.
