Baghdad: Chairman of the Federal Integrity Commission, Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, emphasized that the commission’s role has evolved from merely overseeing operations to forming an effective partnership in promoting reform and development. He highlighted that performance evaluation is crucial for fostering competition among officials and selecting individuals who are competent, professional, and ethical. This is part of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2021-2024, which includes a national measure of performance particularly focused on integrity and corruption, grounded in scientific standards.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Lami discussed these points during the First Government Performance Evaluation Conference at al-Rashid Hotel, under the patronage of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani. The conference, themed “Performance Evaluation: A Path to Government Reform and Excellence,” underscored the importance of evaluation in enhancing institutional performance, improving services for citizens, and building trust between state institutions and the public. Al-Lami commended the contribution of joint technical committees, which employed a scientific approach to provide valuable recommendations and reports that bolstered government efforts.
Al-Lami further elaborated that the Commission’s oversight efforts are centered on ensuring that projects and services for citizens remain unaffected by corruption, while abiding by laws and regulations to maintain efficiency and transparency in institutional performance. He highlighted the transition of the Commission’s role to actively participate in advancing reform and development in Iraq. Al-Lami acknowledged the Prime Minister’s substantial support for the Commission’s oversight functions, emphasizing the priority given to combating corruption within the government program.
The conference, attended by the Prime Minister, ministers, and undersecretaries, showcased the outcomes of the Higher Committee for Performance Evaluation and its subcommittees. These bodies are tasked with fulfilling commitments in the government program to review and assess the performance of officials continuously.
