Chairman of the Communications and Media Commission Inaugurates the E-Signature Conference in Baghdad


Baghdad: The conference on activating e-signatures to support e-payment, titled “Towards a Trusted Digital Environment,” kicked off in Baghdad. The conference was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, under the supervision and organization of the Central Bank of Iraq and the Communications and Media Commission, and organized by the Iraqi Association for Information and Communications Technology (IAICT). It featured the participation of government ministries and institutions, local and international technology and communications companies, and representatives of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).



According to National Iraqi News Agency, in his speech during the opening session, Chairman of the Communications and Media Commission, Nawfal Abu Raghif, emphasized that the conference represents a fundamental step in building a secure digital environment that supports the national economy. The conference, sponsored and in essential partnership with the Communications and Media Commission as the regulatory body for this vast sector, affirms its tireless efforts to establish genuine partnerships with financial technology (FinTech) companies to develop innovative financial services that respond to citizens’ needs in the digital age.



Abu Raghif added, “The success of this project requires responsible institutional strengthening of information security, which represents the cornerstone of data protection and ensuring digital trust, as well as developing the infrastructure and encouraging informed investment in this field.” He emphasized the Commission’s commitment to implementing applicable legislation, most notably the Electronic Signature and Electronic Transactions Law, in line with international standards and the regulations of the International Telecommunication Union.



The Chairman of the Commission concluded his speech by emphasizing that digital transformation is no longer merely a regulatory option, but rather a national economic necessity. He called for the integrated efforts of the state, the private sector, and international partners to build a sustainable digital economy that meets the demands of the times and serves the Iraqi citizen.
