Baghdad: The Civil Defense Directorate announced on Tuesday that it had brought a fire that broke out in a sponge factory north of the capital, Baghdad, under control.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Directorate stated that “Civil Defense teams have fully controlled a fire that broke out in large quantities of sponge left in an open area belonging to a private factory in Al-Shu’la area, north of Baghdad.”

The statement explained that “Civil Defense teams mobilized their capabilities, contained the fire, and isolated the burning sponge stock from the factory’s production lines. They extinguished the fire within minutes, with no human casualties and minimal material damage.”

A fire broke out in a private sponge factory in Al-Dawanem area in Al-Shu’la, north of Baghdad, without knowing the cause or extent of the losses.
