Riyadh: A committee associated with the Mecca Agreement on joint defense, involving Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, is set to meet in the Saudi capital on Monday. Senior Turkish officials will participate in the discussions.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting follows an announcement by Rashad Al-Alimi, Chairman of Yemen’s Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council, regarding a large-scale military operation against the Iran-aligned Houthi group. This operation aims to reclaim territories controlled by the group.
The Pakistani Foreign Minister mentioned last Friday that Iran had proposed political engagement with the Houthi group. This proposal is expected to be a topic of discussion at the upcoming committee meeting in Riyadh.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry has indicated that the meeting will focus on recent regional developments and efforts to institutionalize the alliance. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defence Minister Yasar G¼ler, and Chief of the General Staff Sel§uk Bayraktaroglu will attend the meeting, joining officials from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
