Baghdad: During a meeting with the head of the Integrity Commission, Nawfal Abu Raghif, chairman of the Communications and Media Commission, affirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting institutional reform, combating corruption, and strengthening partnerships with oversight agencies.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Abu Raghif, during his discussion with Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, Chairman of the Federal Integrity Commission, emphasized the ongoing implementation of agreements between the two entities. These agreements focus on monitoring and developing oversight media discourse, with the aim of promoting transparency and accountability.
Both leaders highlighted the crucial role of media in fostering a culture of integrity, protecting public funds, and identifying areas of concern through purposeful discourse and investigative reporting. They also stressed the importance of collaborating with relevant agencies to counteract misleading information and reinforce credible news sources.
The meeting further addressed the need to complete procedures for collecting public debts from telecommunications companies and media institutions. Updating legal measures against unlicensed entities was also discussed as a critical issue for safeguarding public funds and enhancing the state’s financial resources.
Al-Lami praised the efforts of the Communications and Media Commission in regulating media institutions and improving professional standards. He underscored the importance of media oversight in preventing public misinformation and confusion, particularly with the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Al-Lami also emphasized the Integrity Commission’s focus on the media’s role during elections, urging the prevention of state resources and assets being used for electoral purposes. He called for continued institutional efforts to ensure public office neutrality.
