Baghdad: The Board of Commissioners of the Communications and Media Commission approved on Thursday a mechanism for confiscating devices used in violations. In a statement, the Board announced that its eighteenth regular session was chaired by Balasim Salem and attended by board members to discuss various organizational and technical files on its agenda.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Board reviewed the proposed Information Technology Crimes Law, submitted by the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee. Members offered observations and opinions on the proposal, preparing for the necessary steps to be taken. Additionally, the Board approved the allocation of a short code in the governorates of Nineveh and Dhi Qar for the Citizens’ Affairs Department, facilitating communication and service provision to citizens.

The statement explained that the board approved a mechanism for confiscating devices and equipment used in violations, ensuring procedures align with established legal and regulatory frameworks. Furthermore, the Council approved the amended and final version of the regulations governing violations and penalties in the telecommunications and information technology sector, reinforcing mechanisms for dealing with violations and penalties according to applicable regulations.
