Baghdad: Minister of Communications Mustafa Sanad received invitations on Thursday for Iraq to join the Digital Economy Initiative and the Digital Silk Road. The Ministry of Communications stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “Minister of Communications Mustafa Sanad met today, Thursday, with the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Baghdad, Xiang Bo.”

According to Iraqi News Agency, the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation and joint coordination in the communications and postal sectors, contributing to the development of digital infrastructure and improving the level of services in Iraq. During the meeting, the Minister received several official invitations and proposals, including an invitation for Iraq to join the International Cooperative Framework for Digital Economy and Green Development, and an invitation for Iraq to join the Digital Silk Road project and leverage its strategic location to become a regional communications corridor and a data hub.

The Chinese Embassy also welcomed the Minister of Communications’ visit to the People’s Republic of China next November, which will include visits to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the headquarters of HUAWEI and ZTE, and the headquarters of SHEIN. At the end of the meeting, the Chinese ambassador praised efforts made by the Ministry of Communications in developing the communications and information technology sector, through the decisions and steps taken to advance the sector and enhance the paths of digital transformation.
