Baghdad: The Coordination Framework is scheduled to hold a significant meeting this evening in Baghdad with the aim of finalizing its official candidate for the Prime Minister position in the upcoming government. MP Abdul Amir Al-Mayahi disclosed to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that Nouri al-Maliki’s nomination is nearly confirmed within the Coordination Framework, and tonight’s meeting is expected to result in an official announcement.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Coordination Framework has seen considerable support for Maliki’s nomination from most of its blocs and forces. Efforts are underway to secure unanimous approval by engaging with two remaining blocs. The political and parliamentary communities are focused on the outcome of this meeting, which has faced delays over the past two weeks due to internal disagreements.
Earlier information from members of parliament within the Coordination Framework indicated that a preliminary agreement to nominate al-Maliki for the role of Prime Minister-designate has been reached, though it remains unofficial due to hesitations from the State Forces Alliance and the Sadiqun Bloc. These groups have not yet provided their formal endorsement for Maliki’s nomination. Meanwhile, sources suggest that resolving these issues depends on intensive meetings and fostering agreement among the framework’s forces.
MPs have noted that upon deciding on al-Maliki’s nomination, the next phase will involve formally presenting his nomination to the existing Prime Minister, who will task him with forming the new government. This step will initiate negotiations with other political blocs to establish the new government structure in accordance with the constitutional framework.
