Baghdad: The Council of Ministers approved the draft Law of the Capital Baghdad on Tuesday and referred it to the House of Representatives, based on the provisions of the Constitution.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the Prime Minister’s Media Office detailed that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired the sixteenth regular session of the Council of Ministers, where discussions included the general situation in the country, government program implementation mechanisms, and service, economic, and social issues.

As part of efforts to support farmers, the Council approved an amendment to the agricultural plan for the current wheat season, which includes lands outside the plan. The Ministries of Agriculture and Trade are tasked with implementing this amendment, while the Ministry of Finance will ensure financial allocations for wheat from these lands to pay farmers.

In regulating medical personnel, the Council agreed on recommendations to include the term “health” in Cabinet Resolution 24967, which addresses the regulation of Iraqi and foreign medical and health personnel, ensuring that costs related to housing, transportation, visas, and social programs are covered by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Council also reviewed progress on two sewerage projects in Al-Khalidiya and Al-Hamza District, exempting companies from a stipulated 15-day period to expedite contract processes, and required these companies to establish branches in Iraq within three months.

Monitoring infrastructure projects, the Council approved increasing the cost for a fuel delivery project to the Pipeline Company under the Ministry of Oil, and the Ministry of Oil is coordinating with the Ministry of Planning on project listing requirements for a dry gas pipeline.

The Council also referred the draft Capital Baghdad Law to the Council of Representatives, incorporating feedback from the session.

In legislative matters, the Council approved a draft amendment to the Insurance Business Regulation Law and sent it to the House of Representatives.

Diplomatically, the Council approved reopening the Iraqi Embassy in Bangkok, aligning with international conventions and reciprocity principles.

In international security cooperation, the Council authorized the Minister of Interior to negotiate a draft agreement with Spain on security and crime control, coordinating with legal advisors and adhering to established procedures for approval.
