Baghdad: The Council of Ministers, under the leadership of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, conducted its 30th regular session, discussing critical national issues and making significant decisions to address them.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the session, the Council emphasized the importance of monitoring the implementation of the government program. It reviewed the fifth semi-annual report on the progress of this program and decided to forward it to the House of Representatives for further consideration.

One of the key decisions made was related to the country's electricity supply. The Council approved an amendment to Resolution No. 437 of 2025, allowing the Ministry of Electricity to directly contract with the Kar Power Alliance to add 590 megawatts to the national grid through floating power plants. This strategic move aims to address the power shortage during peak load periods without any extensions beyond the initial 70 days. The agreement stipulates that the alliance will handle the transportation of fuel waste in compliance with environmental standards and cover dock fees.

In the oil sector, the Council made significant amendments to existing resolutions. The Najaf Refinery Development Project received an exemption from standard government contract implementation instructions. Additionally, for the Basra-Haditha Crude Oil Pipeline Project, the Council approved changes to Resolution No. 73 of 2025 to include comprehensive project design, equipping, installation, and operation. The scope of the project will be expanded to involve a wider range of companies and an international consulting firm to oversee the project details.

On the international front, the Council authorized the Minister of Finance to negotiate and sign agreements aimed at avoiding double taxation and preventing tax evasion with China, Qatar, and the Czech Republic. This decision is part of Iraq's ongoing efforts to strengthen foreign relations and enhance economic and financial coordination. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been tasked with preparing the necessary authorization documents for the Prime Minister's approval.
