Baghdad: The Council of Ministers has approved the initiation of the first phase of the Najaf refinery development process. This decision marks a significant step towards enhancing the refinery’s capabilities and increasing its production efficiency.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Council also resolved, during its session held today, to award the second phase of the electricity generation and distribution project in the West Qurna oil field to the Chinese company CEEC. This contract will be executed at the final discounted price, aiming to improve energy infrastructure and support the region’s oil production activities.

In addition, the Council has decided to incorporate urea fertilizer into the import licensing mechanism. This move aligns with the national procedures for issuing import licenses for chemical, dual-use, and hazardous materials, ensuring controlled and regulated importation of these important agricultural inputs.
