BAGHDAD: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired the 50th regular session of the Council of Ministers, addressing various national and regional issues while commemorating the anniversary of Victory Day over Terrorism. The session, rescheduled to compensate for the December 10 holiday, focused on national readiness, regional stability, and development initiatives.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the session opened with Al-Sudani reflecting on Victory Day, emphasizing the sacrifices made by Iraqis to reclaim their land. He highlighted the importance of this day for reassessing national readiness and noted the security forces’ proven capability to maintain security and stability across the nation.

The Council addressed the selection of Baghdad as the capital of Arab tourism for 2025, with Al-Sudani urging ministries and state institutions to collaborate in showcasing Baghdad’s historical and cultural significance. He emphasized the private sector’s role in enhancing tourism, creating jobs, and
developing cultural and entertainment venues.

In discussing Syria’s developments, Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to supporting Syria’s sovereignty and unity while safeguarding the rights of its people. He directed efforts to strengthen border fortifications and improve infrastructure, including preparing for the rehabilitation of roads linking Al-Qaim and Al-Walid crossings.

The Minister of Interior reported on his field visit to the Iraq-Syria border, highlighting the readiness of Border Guard Forces. Additionally, the Minister of Defense outlined military strategies to secure border regions, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs provided insights into diplomatic communications with regional partners.

Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of government officials actively engaging with citizens to address their needs and streamline bureaucratic processes. The Council concluded by reviewing and deciding on various agenda items, aiming to enhance governance and address pressing national concerns.
