Havana: Cuban President Miguel Daz-Canel has denounced the United States for using the same pretexts it employed against Venezuela to justify aggression against the Caribbean island, stressing that for Cubans, surrender will never be an option.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency Daz-Canel said the aggression against Venezuela followed an intense campaign of economic, political, and media pressure that escalated from September 2025, along with the largest US military deployment in the Caribbean in more than 20 years.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the Communist Party of Cuba in Havana, he said these were ‘the same excuses’ now being used against Cuba to justify aggression, coercive measures, and the continued escalation of pressure on the island.
Referring to the US attack on Venezuela that led to the abduction of President Nicol¡s Maduro, Daz-Canel said the way the aggression was structured also included elements of the war Cuba is facing, describing it as an ideological war, a cultural war, and a media war.
The Cuban president also criticized US President Donald Trump’s decision to declare Cuba an extraordinary threat to US national security, as well as the imposition of tariffs on countries that sell oil to Havana.
He also condemned the current US administration’s lines of action, which include total suffocation and military aggression against Cuba.
He added that surrender will never be an option, and Cuba must face such a difficult period with courage and bravery.
