Baghdad: The Customs Authority announced the seizure of illegal materials as part of an intensive campaign to combat smuggling.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Authority successfully thwarted several smuggling attempts across various customs centers and areas. A statement from the Authority highlighted that at the Umm Qasr Southern Customs Center, 19 containers were seized, containing items such as motor oils, soap, cars, and office equipment, along with other materials that violated instructions and regulations.
The statement further revealed that the Traibil Customs Center intercepted a shipment of fertilizer (urea) that was concealed for smuggling beyond legal controls. Additionally, a truck carrying electrical transformers was returned to the Jordanian side due to incomplete paperwork.
In the northern region, the Investigation and Anti-Smuggling Department of the Northern Region Customs Directorate seized a truck loaded with alcoholic beverages intended for smuggling, breaching customs regulations and instructions.
In the central region, the Investigation and Anti-Smuggling Department of the Central Region Customs Directorate seized nine trucks filled with various materials, including engine oil, water pumps, clothing, ceramics, nylon rolls, and straws, among other items that failed to meet import conditions and controls.
The Authority noted that these operations were conducted through joint efforts with the National Intelligence Service, the National Security Service, the Licensing and Intelligence Division, the Border Ports Authority, and other supporting agencies, with assistance from the Customs Police.
