Death Toll in Gaza Climbs as Medicine Shortage Imperils Wounded

Gaza: The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced that the number of victims of the Israeli war on the Strip has risen to 70,360 martyrs and 171,047 wounded since October 7, 2023. The Ministry's daily report stated: "Six new martyrs and 17 wounded arrived at the Strip's hospitals in the past 24 hours. A number of victims remain under the rubble and in the streets, as ambulance and civil defense teams are unable to reach them at this time."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the total number of victims since the ceasefire on October 11, 2023, has reached approximately 373 martyrs and 970 wounded, with 624 bodies recovered from under the rubble. The Ministry of Health warned of a worsening drug crisis in health facilities, indicating that zero stocks of medicines and medical supplies have exceeded "catastrophic levels," threatening the lives of patients and the wounded.

The Ministry revealed in an official statement that 52% of the essential medicines list has been completely depleted, while the shortage of medical supplies has reached 71%, and laboratory supplies 70%, amidst escalating needs for treatment interventions for the wounded and sick. The Ministry explained that primary care, surgery, operations, intensive care, cancer treatment, and hematology services are facing a severe shortage of essential medications. Meanwhile, orthopedics, nephrology, dialysis, ophthalmology, general surgery, and intensive care units are suffering from "catastrophic challenges" due to the scarcity of medical supplies.

The Ministry called for an urgent increase in medical supplies to enable medical teams to continue their work in specialized departments, warning of the repercussions of this ongoing situation on patients' lives and the level of healthcare services provided.
