Deputy for Sadiqoun: The water crisis is a political government crisis and mismanagement

Baghdad The MP for the Al-Sadiquon bloc, member of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Water and Marshes, Rafiq Al-Salihi, confirmed that the water crisis that the country is suffering from is caused by a political government crisis and mismanagement.

In a statement carried by the bloc’s website, he said: There are memoranda of understanding obligating the Turkish side to preserve Iraq’s water share, stressing the need for government agencies to take their role in this file.

Al-Salihi added: The water crisis that Iraq is suffering from is not a crisis of scarcity, but rather a crisis of political government and mismanagement.

He explained: Iraq is subjected to a water war by Turkey, which led to the drying up of rivers and the deterioration of the agricultural sector due to the lack of water releases.

Al-Salihi pointed out that the central and southern governorates suffer greatly from the lack of water and the deterioration of the agricultural sector, pointing out that Iraq is exposed to a humanitarian disaster due to the reduction of Iraq’s water share.
