Baghdad: Deputy Speaker of Parliament Shakhawan Abdullah met with the Assyrian Democratic Movement in Iraq to discuss the protection of constitutional rights for minorities and their inclusion in governmental roles.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Parliament revealed that Deputy Speaker Shakhawan Abdullah Ahmed welcomed Yaqoub Korkis Yaqo, the Secretary-General of the Assyrian Democratic Movement in Iraq, along with several movement leaders, at his official office in Baghdad.

The statement detailed that the meeting, which included several MPs, focused on the country’s general situation and topics of mutual interest. Abdullah emphasized the importance of safeguarding minorities’ constitutional rights and ensuring their participation in government, state institutions, and political life. He highlighted that such measures are essential to achieving balance, social justice, and preventing the deprivation of their legitimate rights. Furthermore, he advocated for their involvement in comprehensive decision-making processes to alleviate suffering and resolve everyday issues faced by citizens.
