Baghdad: Political sources have revealed details of the implementation mechanism for the framework of cooperation between Iraq and Turkey in the field of water management, aimed at developing and improving the efficiency of water resources in both countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the mechanism includes several joint projects, most notably improving water quality and reducing river pollution, developing irrigation methods using modern technologies, implementing land reclamation projects, and establishing a governance system for water management in Iraq to promote rational water use.

The mechanism also involves identifying and prioritizing water projects based on requests from the relevant Iraqi authorities, with the projects available for competition among Turkish companies. These projects will be financed through a special account funded by the sale of specific quantities of crude oil, as determined by a resolution of the Iraqi Council of Ministers and under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance.

The sale of oil to Turkish companies will adhere to the procedures adopted by Iraq’s State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO).
