Dhi Qar Governor told NINA: Iraq will depend entirely on local production of gas and leave import from neighboring countries soon

Baghdad The Governor of Dhi Qar, Ahmed Abdul-Ghani Al-Khafaji, confirmed that the gas investment project in the Al-Gharraf and Nasiriyah fields is an important qualitative leap for the country’s economy and for Dhi Qar Governorate in particular.

Al-Khafaji said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that “the province of Dhi Qar is in dire need of the financial returns that will come from this project, and we hope that it will fill the local need for gas required in electric power plants.”

He added: “In the next few years, Iraq will depend entirely on the invested gas and leave the import of gas to electric stations from neighboring countries, and the dependence will be entirely on local production.”
