Baghdad: The Director General of the Department of Judicial Relations at the Ministry of Justice, Ahmed Laibi, recently engaged in discussions with Joe Maink, the Director of the “Land on a Large Scale” project at the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), focusing on enhancing collaboration within the land and real estate registration sector.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting concentrated on reviewing the progress of ongoing projects and deliberating updates to Real Estate Registration Law No. (43) of 1971. The Ministry of Justice highlighted the outcomes of the Housing, Land, and Property (HLP) program in Sinjar, noting the issuance and distribution of over 4,800 title deeds to Yazidi beneficiaries. The Ministry also mentioned ongoing efforts to finalize procedures for remaining housing complexes and to provide continued legal support and complete documentation and compensation processes for beneficiaries.

Laibi underscored the importance of collaboration with UN-Habitat in reinforcing institutional frameworks and advancing the justice and land system in Iraq. Maink affirmed UN-Habitat’s dedication to supporting the Ministry of Justice and enhancing the partnership to ensure fair access to land rights.
