Baghdad: Lieutenant General Abdul Amir al-Shammari, Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, emphasized on Tuesday the need to improve the level of regional security operations. In a statement, the office said that al-Shammari chaired a comprehensive conference at the Baghdad Operations Command headquarters to discuss the implementation mechanism of the regional security plan in the capital. The statement noted that the conference was attended by division commanders from the Ministries of Defense and Interior, directors of intelligence agencies and the Popular Mobilization Forces, as well as a number of staff officers.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Major General Hadi al-Kinani, Commander of Baghdad Operations, reviewed the implementation mechanism of the regional security plan, clarifying the areas of responsibility for the security zones and highlighting the most important tasks and duties assigned to the security forces and agencies within those zones. The statement indicated that the conference discussed the requirements for implementing regional security and ways to support and strengthen the police departments in the Karkh and Rusafa police commands, enabling them to perform their duties optimally, maintain the security gains achieved, and enhance the security and stability of the capital.

The Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces emphasized the need to elevate the level of regional security operations and unify command and control. He stressed the importance of intensifying and unifying intelligence efforts and enhancing coordination among the various security agencies, in accordance with the current circumstances. He also emphasized the necessity of focusing on the specialized work of the Internal Security Forces and strengthening their role in maintaining security and order, preventing the militarization of the streets, and thus contributing to the consolidation of security and stability and enhancing citizens’ trust in security institutions.

The office stated that the conference affirmed the importance of supporting and developing the capabilities of police stations and departments, enabling them to perform their security duties within their areas of responsibility, while continuing coordination and cooperation among the various security and intelligence agencies.
