Baghdad: The Directorate of Narcotics Affairs announced the dismantling of an international drug smuggling network and the seizure of 90 kg of hashish deep within Iraqi territorial waters.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Directorate stated that the operation was conducted under the supervision of the Central Investigation Court in Rusafa. The coordinated effort involved the General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs, the Military Intelligence Directorate, and the Naval Forces Command. This collaboration resulted in a significant security operation against drug smuggling networks, leading to the arrest of three suspects, including a foreign national, and the confiscation of 90 kg of hashish and two boats used in the smuggling operation.
The statement detailed that the operation originated from the Umm Qasr Naval Base, lasting 16 hours for a round trip. This mission was successful after several days of careful surveillance and monitoring operations in Iraqi territorial waters adjacent to a neighboring country.
