Diyala: Two men were sentenced to 10 years in prison for embezzling funds allocated to compensate victims of terrorism in Diyala. The Diyala Criminal Court sentenced three individuals to ten years in prison for embezzling funds allocated for compensating the families of martyrs and those wounded in terrorist attacks.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Judicial Council revealed that the defendants embezzled these funds by exploiting their positions in the Diyala Governorate office. They managed this by issuing 301 fraudulent checks and transferring the money from the compensation account to the governorate office’s operational advances account.
The statement clarified that the sentences were issued based on Article 315, Paragraph 2 of the Penal Code, in conjunction with Articles 47, 48, and 49 concerning complicity.
