Diyala: Diyala police forces thwarted an attempt to exploit a minor girl and recovered a large sum of money.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Diyala Police Command stated in a press release that the Al-Ghalibiya checkpoint, in cooperation with the Hibhib police station, arrested a man coming from one of the southern provinces for not carrying official identification. He was accompanied by a minor girl from one of the central provinces, which necessitated taking immediate action.

The statement indicated that both parties were transferred to Al-Ghalibiya police station, where investigations revealed that the minor girl had stolen a large sum of money from her family’s home after being lured through social media with a false promise of marriage. This was an attempt to exploit her young age and run away against her family’s wishes.

According to the statement, the case was duly presented to the competent investigating judge, who ordered the suspect’s detention in accordance with Article (422) of the Penal Code, while placing the minor girl in protective custody for her safety. The money and phone used in the incident were also seized, and the necessary legal procedures were initiated.
