Gaza city: Doctors Without Borders has strongly criticized the Israeli occupation authorities for deciding not to open a criminal investigation into incidents involving the deaths and injuries of its staff members. The organization condemned the closure of two cases they had submitted for review, which involved attacks on a convoy in Gaza City in November 2023 leading to two deaths, and a raid on their shelter in Khan Younis in February 2024, resulting in two more deaths and six injuries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the condemnation follows nearly two years of waiting since Doctors Without Borders filed its requests. The organization had also appealed to the Israeli Supreme Court to challenge the Military Advocate General’s lack of response. Doctors Without Borders labeled the decision as unfair and criticized the military system for being unwilling to address potential violations that might equate to war crimes in Gaza.

The organization highlighted the concerning number of 15 staff members killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since October 2013, alongside 1,700 other healthcare workers. They reiterated their stance against sacrificing civilians for military objectives and called for an independent and impartial body to review the cases involving their staff, emphasizing that internal military reviews cannot replace genuine accountability.
