Draft Framework Agreement Reached Between Iraq and Turkey on Water Issues


Ankara: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced the conclusion of a draft framework agreement with Turkey regarding water. He stated during a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan that the primary focus of his visit to Ankara was the water issue, although there are multiple ties between the two nations, including the security situation.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fuad Hussein expressed support for the political unity in Turkey and emphasized efforts to create a conducive atmosphere for dialogue and negotiations aimed at reducing regional tensions.



Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan acknowledged the shared water problem with Iraq, emphasizing the critical need for water in Iraq and Turkey’s commitment to resolving the crisis. He attributed low water levels in dams to climate change and highlighted Turkey’s potential to offer significant assistance in enhancing Iraq’s energy infrastructure.
