Baghdad:The Director General of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs, Lieutenant General Ahmed Saleh Al-Rikabi, announced a significant decline in the drug trade within Iraq, revealing a 60% reduction. Since the beginning of 2023, a total of 2,013 drug networks have been dismantled, marking a substantial effort in combating drug trafficking.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Rikabi, in a statement aired on the Al-Iraqiya News channel’s program “Al-Mashhad,” discussed the strategic initiatives undertaken since 2023 to strengthen anti-narcotics operations in Iraq. He emphasized the agency’s success in dismantling numerous drug networks throughout the year.
Furthermore, Iraq is noted as the only nation actively pursuing drug-related cases beyond its borders. A notable operation by the Directorate of Narcotics Affairs led to the seizure of 1.2 million narcotic pills, highlighting the effectiveness of their specialized operations.
