Baghdad: The Ministry of Education announced today, Tuesday, the postponement of the new academic year until next month.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a ministry statement revealed that Minister of Education Abdul Karim Abtan al-Jubouri has directed the delay of the 2026-2027 academic year start to Sunday, October 11, instead of September 20. This decision aims to allow additional time for the completion of the second-round exams for non-graduating classes and to ensure schools are prepared for the new year.

The statement further explained that the postponement also considers the high temperatures expected during this period, emphasizing the need to complete all necessary school, technical, and administrative requirements before students commence classes throughout Iraq.
