Baghdad: The MP of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Najwa Hamid Kakai, has confirmed that the election of Al-Mashhadani as Speaker of the Council of Representatives has paved the way for the approval of controversial laws through political consensus among various blocs. This development comes after the Council of Representatives elected Al-Mashhadani last Thursday, filling a position that had been vacant for nearly a year.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Kakai highlighted that this new leadership makes it easier to reach an understanding on a range of contentious laws, including those related to general amnesty, personal status, retirement of members of the Popular Mobilization Forces, and the annulment of the decisions made by the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council concerning the return of properties to their rightful owners. She clarified that the PUK’s standpoint on the cancellation of these decisions is not confined to the Kirkuk Governorate but extends to other governorates such as
Diyala and Salahuddin.
Kakai emphasized the inadequacy of maintaining decisions made by a regime that ended over two decades ago, urging the House of Representatives to revoke these outdated resolutions. She advocated for the creation of new decisions that better serve the interests of citizens and align with the present circumstances of the country.
