Baghdad: The electricity company has announced the imminent launch of an electronic application designed to enable citizens to view their outstanding debts and provide the option to pay these debts in installments.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Electricity revealed this new development on Tuesday, stating that the application aims to facilitate the management of electricity debts for citizens. The announcement was made during a visit by Khalid Ghazai Attiya, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity for Transmission and Distribution Affairs, to the Central Electricity Distribution Company. He led a delegation from the ministry headquarters and chaired an expanded meeting that included the Acting Director General for Technical Affairs, Haider Mohammed Jawad, and other senior officials.

The meeting reviewed progress in the national campaign to eliminate illegal electricity connections, assessed current production indicators, and analyzed the quantities of imported gas and their impact on supply stability. The Undersecretary highlighted the importance of accelerating efforts to remove illegal connections, particularly those with high loads, and stressed the need for media campaigns to promote energy conservation and raise awareness about the legal penalties for illegal connections as outlined in Article (444).

The Undersecretary also directed the confiscation of materials used in illegal connections, the preparation of joint seizure reports, and the follow-up of legal cases to their conclusion. Coordination with local police stations and the electricity authority was emphasized to ensure effective implementation of the campaign.

He further detailed that the upcoming electronic application will adhere to applicable laws, allowing citizens to manage their debts more effectively. The Ministry has empowered general managers to waive complaints once financial obligations are settled and legal actions are halted, while ensuring the protection of public rights. A comprehensive evaluation of the performance of branch and sector managers, maintenance center managers, and other relevant departments will be conducted to improve performance levels and achieve the set objectives.
