DOHA: Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, has made a strong plea for the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon and urged for the full implementation of international resolutions, including United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. This call was made during his speech at the inauguration of the fourth session of the first legislative term of the Qatari Shura Council.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Emir criticized Israel, stating, “Israel deliberately chose to expand the aggression by implementing pre-prepared plans in other locations such as the West Bank and Lebanon.” He emphasized the resilience of the Palestinian people and suggested that Israel would ultimately have to accept a two-state solution after the extensive loss and destruction caused by its actions.

Sheikh Tamim expressed concerns about the ramifications of the escalation in Lebanon and the Israeli military operations against it. “We renew our condemnation of the air strikes and military operations launched by
the Israeli forces on Lebanon, and the easiest and safest way to stop the escalation on the borders with it was to stop the war of extermination in Gaza,” he stated.

Furthermore, the Emir highlighted Qatar’s role in mediating peace, mentioning the truce agreement reached last November. He acknowledged the challenges facing mediation efforts but reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to continue striving for a resolution to end the conflict.
