New york: Three Emirati female artists are participating in the American exhibition "Rooted Movements". The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi organized the 'Rooted Movements' exhibition as part of the Nomad Hamptons events in the United States, reflecting its commitment to promoting contemporary Emirati art on the international stage. This initiative is part of its ongoing strategic partnership with the Nomad Gallery.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the exhibition builds on the success of Nomad Abu Dhabi 2025 and showcases the works of three Emirati artists: Afra Al Dhaheri, Zahour Al Sayegh, and Azza Al Qubaisi. Their artistic journey explored the concepts of connection, heritage, and transformation through works that draw inspiration from memory, place, and identity, reinterpreting them with contemporary visions.
Hosted by the Watermill Center in New York, the exhibition explored how stories, materials, and cultural identities travel across distances while retaining their roots and authenticity. The participating artists presented diverse artistic visions, employing different materials and styles, yet all converging on the themes of growth, transformation, and continuity.
Afra Al Dhaheri drew inspiration for her installation works from the material and symbolic properties of poetry as a medium imbued with connotations of identity and transformation. Zuhour Al Sayegh, on the other hand, drew her ceramic works from the life cycle of the date palm, focusing on the offshoot as a symbol of continuity and renewal. Azza Al Qubaisi, through her "Metaphor" series, evoked forms inspired by nature to express processes of growth and accumulation as extensions of memory and identity.
The organization of the exhibition embodies the development of the strategic partnership between the Department and Nomad, strengthening bridges of cultural dialogue between the UAE and the global audience through contemporary art and design, and opening new horizons for showcasing the Emirati art scene and its creativity. The Department looks forward to hosting the next edition of Nomad Abu Dhabi in November 2026, to continue this cultural dialogue that brings together artists, creators, and audiences from around the world.
