Erbil: The Ministry of Peshmerga announced on Wednesday the end of the military missions of the German forces within the efforts of the international coalition to combat ISIS. According to Iraqi News Agency, the Stefan Camp at Erbil International Airport was the venue for the official ceremonies marking the conclusion of military missions by German military advisors in the fight against the ISIS terrorist organization.

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including the Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Minister of Peshmerga Shorsh Ismail, and the Consuls General of the Netherlands and Italy. Other attendees included the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Peshmerga, Abdul Khaliq Babiri, Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Issa Uzeir, Secretary General of the Ministry Lieutenant General Bakhtiar Mohammed Sadiq, along with a delegation of senior advisors from the International Coalition Forces and senior officers of the Ministry of Peshmerga.

Held in Erbil at the official invitation of Colonel Austin Pecha, the commander of German forces in the Kurdistan Region, the ceremony also saw the presence of General Gnter Schneider, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in the German Ministry of Defense. The event marked the official end of German military missions in the Kurdistan Region, following years of active involvement within the international coalition against ISIS in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

The historical and pivotal role of the German military team in supporting the Peshmerga forces, particularly in confronting and defeating ISIS terrorists, was highlighted during the ceremonies. The Peshmerga forces, along with the people and government of the Kurdistan Region, expressed their deepest gratitude to the German military advisors, as well as to the people and government of Germany, for their military and medical assistance, logistical support, and advisory services. These contributions significantly bolstered the capabilities of the Peshmerga forces and helped develop their military infrastructure.
