Baghdad: During her visit to the Al-Dawrah refinery, the Minister of Environment stressed the need to reduce emissions and pollutants and adhere to environmental standards.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Minister of Environment Sarwa Abdul Wahid conducted a field visit to the Central Refineries Company/Al-Dura Refinery to monitor the refinery’s environmental situation, review the measures taken to reduce emissions, and enhance compliance with environmental standards.

During the visit, the Minister emphasized the need for swift and practical steps to reduce emissions and pollutants resulting from operational processes and to fully adhere to environmental regulations and applicable legislation. She stressed that “the Ministry of Environment is continuing its monitoring programs to ensure that all industrial facilities comply with environmental controls,” praising the refinery management’s efforts in finding immediate and long-term solutions to reduce emissions.

Abdul Wahid stated, “We have compiled reports indicating the extent of pollution resulting from production activities and oil industries throughout Iraq, particularly in the southern cities and Basra. We will work in coordination with all government agencies to find practical and sustainable solutions to address these challenges and mitigate their environmental impact.”

The visit is part of the Ministry of Environment’s field program to monitor the performance of industrial facilities, contributing to pollution reduction, improved air quality, and the promotion of sustainable development.
