Johannesburg: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed that true global peace will not be achieved without the establishment of a free Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Speaking at a press conference at the conclusion of his participation in the G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, President Erdogan emphasized Turkey's longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and its defense of oppressed rights in Gaza across international platforms.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, President Erdogan condemned what he described as genocide in Gaza and throughout Palestine, attributing responsibility to Israel and its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. He expressed his view that the war in Gaza constitutes genocide. Furthermore, he lauded South Africa's backing of the Palestinian cause and its stance against Israel's actions in Gaza, specifically praising the nation's legal action against Israel at the International Court of Justice.

Regarding other international issues, Erdogan announced plans to engage in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He intends to address the Black Sea Grain Corridor agreement, which aims to facilitate peace. Erdogan reiterated Turkey's commitment to peace efforts, expressing optimism for successful outcomes.

In addition to the Middle Eastern and European concerns, President Erdogan highlighted Turkey's continued involvement in addressing the conflict in Sudan. He stated Turkey's willingness to assist in resolving issues wherever they arise, including in Sudan, Somalia, and the Gulf.

The G20 summit, which Erdogan attended, concluded under the theme "Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability." This marks the first G20 summit held on the African continent and the first with the African Union as a permanent member, signaling an enhanced role for Africa in global governance. The G20 comprises the European Union, the African Union, and 19 member countries, representing a significant portion of the world's population and economy.
