Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized Turkey’s strong condemnation of any attacks targeting Syria’s unity, stability, and social peace during a press conference at the presidential complex in Ankara. He expressed support for the messages of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, which he described as characterized by moderation and calm.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s stance against terrorism and intimidation in Syria. He welcomed the firm messages from the Syrian President, highlighting the government’s determination to punish those who violate the law. Erdogan noted that the situation in the Syrian coastal region is mostly under control due to the effective intervention of Syrian government forces, although he acknowledged the ongoing sensitivity of the situation.

Erdogan stated that Turkey is taking necessary measures to prevent adverse developments and urged Syrian authorities to act swiftly to calm the situation. He firmly opposed any attempts to redraw maps in Syria and criticized those who view the country only through the lens of sects, doctrines, and ethnicities, labeling them as prisoners of fanaticism.

Erdogan emphasized that Turkey disregards ethnic, religious, or sectarian affiliations in its regional approach, including countries like Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. He criticized those who remained silent for years while innocent children were harmed in Syria, asserting that they cannot now extend their influence beyond their borders.

Recent security tensions in Syria’s coastal provinces of Latakia and Tartous, attributed to coordinated attacks by remnants of the Assad regime, have prompted a response from security forces and the army. These events, described as the most violent since the regime’s fall, have led to deaths and injuries. Security operations, including combing and chasing remnants, have been underway, with government assurances that stability is being restored.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa emphasized the need to preserve national unity and civil peace, with no tolerance for remnants of the ousted Bashar al-Assad regime who have committed crimes. He noted that the current challenges are expected and highlighted the importance of maintaining unity among Syrians.
