Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has issued a stern warning against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plans for Gaza, stating, “We will not allow Netanyahu and his criminal gang to drag our region into greater disasters in order to prolong their political life.” Erdogan’s comments came during a speech in Ankara following a cabinet meeting, where he emphasized Turkey’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s ongoing efforts to halt the violence in Gaza and ensure uninterrupted humanitarian aid reaches those in need. He underscored the role of Turkish civil society organizations, foundations, and professional associations in standing by the people of Gaza. Erdogan also mentioned his recent conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, where he reaffirmed Turkey’s opposition to Israel’s new plans for occupying Gaza.

The Turkish President expressed appreciation for the large turnout at a solidarity march in Istanbul, demonstrating support for the Muslims of Gaza. He expressed hope for Gaza’s return to peace, stability, and freedom.

The Israeli security cabinet recently approved Netanyahu’s controversial plan for the gradual reoccupation of the Gaza Strip. The plan includes disarming Hamas, returning prisoners, demilitarizing the Strip, establishing security control, and creating an alternative civil administration independent of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. The plan begins with the occupation of Gaza City and the displacement of its population, followed by incursions into residential areas and the occupation of refugee camps in central Gaza.

The reoccupation strategy has been met with international concern, especially given the ongoing conflict supported by the US since October 7, 2023.
