Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed bilateral relations and the latest security developments in Sudan with the head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. The conversation highlighted ongoing concerns regarding Sudan’s stability and the close diplomatic ties between the two nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Directorate stated that Erdogan and al-Burhan discussed relations between Ankara and Khartoum, as well as the latest security developments in Sudan, in a phone call on Tuesday. The dialogue underscores the importance Turkey places on maintaining strong diplomatic channels and addressing regional security issues.

During the call, Erdogan emphasized that Turkey attaches great importance to Sudan’s territorial integrity and political unity, noting that Ankara is closely monitoring the Sudanese army’s efforts to provide security in the country. His remarks reflect Turkey’s continued interest in the situation and its commitment to regional stability.

Erdogan added that Turkey’s support for Sudan and its humanitarian aid will continue. This assurance of ongoing assistance highlights Turkey’s role in supporting Sudan amidst the challenges it faces.

Since April 2023, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been fighting the Sudanese army over a dispute regarding the integration of the RSF into the military establishment. This conflict has contributed to famine, one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of Sudanese and the displacement of approximately 13 million people. The ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis in Sudan remain a significant concern for the international community.
