Mus: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has emphasized the necessity of strength, unity, and cooperation among the peoples of the region, asserting his country’s commitment to fostering an environment of peace, security, and stability.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan delivered these remarks during the 955th anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Manzikert in Mus Province, southeastern Turkey. In his speech, he declared, “We have no other option but to be strong and united in this region. We are determined to make our region a homeland of peace, security, and stability, and we are resolutely moving forward to achieve Turkey’s goal: a region free of terrorism.”

The Turkish president underscored the importance of strength across all areas to establish a strong and influential Turkey, reiterating his country’s commitment to realizing its “Century of Turkey” and all its objectives. He highlighted the resolve of Turkey as a “fighting nation” prepared to sacrifice for the future of the homeland and its people, urging Turks to stand “as one.”

Erdogan also issued a warning to those who believe they can impede Turkey’s progress through “provocations and conspiracies,” asserting that they will be disappointed in their efforts.

The Battle of Manzikert, fought on August 26, 1071, in what is now Mus Province in eastern Turkey, marked a significant victory for the Seljuk Sultan Alp Arslan against the Byzantine army led by Emperor Romanos IV Diogenes. Despite being outnumbered, Alp Arslan’s forces captured Emperor Romanos IV, leading to a significant Muslim presence in Asia Minor.
