Baghdad: A weather expert has predicted that Turkey may increase water releases toward Iraq due to flooding on its territory, while also forecasting a noticeable drop in temperatures below their seasonal averages in the coming days. Dr. Hussam Tariq Majeed, Head of the Data Center at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Al-Mustansiriyah University, conveyed these findings in a press statement, noting the potential consequences of heavy and continuous rainfall in Turkey. The country might be compelled to release larger amounts of water toward Iraq, owing to limited reservoir capacity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dr. Majeed highlighted that temperatures across Iraq are expected to decrease by several degrees as a low-pressure system approaches the region. Ongoing monitoring by the Data Center at the College of Science, utilizing globally connected local weather stations and approved forecasting models, indicates that the low-pressure system will approach the Levant and Iraq on the evening of November 14, leading to light rainfall in some areas.

Dr. Majeed further explained that the impact of the weather system will intensify on Saturday, November 15, with rainfall expected to extend to most governorates as the day progresses. In Baghdad, rain is likely to begin around 9:00 a.m. on November 15, increasing in intensity with possible thunderstorms by noon. Northern governorates are anticipated to experience heavier rainfall.

The expert also noted that rainfall will persist on Sunday, November 16, with more significant intensity expected in northern Iraq.
