Faihan Commends Iraqi Journalists on Successful Elections and Pledges Legislative Support for Free Media


Baghdad: First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Adnan Faihan, affirmed the legislative authority’s commitment to supporting freedom of expression and strengthening the role of free media in society.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement issued by his media office, Faihan congratulated the Iraqi journalistic community on the successful elections of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, which resulted in the selection of representatives who earned the confidence of their colleagues to lead the longstanding syndicate. He noted that these elections represent a professional democratic experience reflecting the journalists’ awareness and their commitment to consolidating sound syndicate work.



Faihan extended his sincere congratulations to the election winners, wishing them success in continuing the syndicate’s historic journey, building a responsible and professional media sector, and reinforcing the principles of freedom of expression and truth-telling at both the local and international levels, in a manner that serves Iraq and enhances its civilized image.



He also stressed that the legislative authority remains committed to supporting freedom of expression and to enacting and developing legislation that safeguards this constitutional right, provides broader guarantees and protections for Iraqi journalists, ensures their ability to perform their professional duties freely and safely, and strengthens the role of free media in serving society and conveying the truth.
