Baghdad: The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Adnan Faihan al-Dulaimi, has underscored the importance of diversifying Iraq’s crude oil export outlets and exploring new export routes towards the Mediterranean Sea.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from Faihan’s media office revealed that he hosted the Director General of the State Oil Marketing Company (SOMO), Ali al-Shatri, in a meeting attended by MP Habib al-Halawi. The discussions focused on the current state of Iraqi oil exports, addressing export mechanisms amidst regional challenges affecting maritime traffic and oil routes, and the need for enhanced preparedness and flexibility in managing oil exports.

Faihan reiterated the necessity of diversifying export outlets and utilizing alternative routes to the Mediterranean Sea, which would provide new opportunities and markets for Iraqi oil exports. He highlighted the importance of developing proactive plans to tackle security risks and regional challenges, ensuring the seamless flow of exports and stable oil revenue.

The statement further mentioned Faihan’s affirmation that the Council of Representatives supports efforts to enhance the resilience and security of the export system, aiming to shield the national economy from regional impacts.
