Baghdad: First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Adnan Fayhan on Friday called on political forces to assume their responsibilities in completing the constitutional requirement of electing the president during Saturday's session.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fayhan stated that there has been an understanding regarding the delay in completing the constitutional entitlement, emphasizing that the need for consensus among societal components and ensuring political stability has driven this delay. However, he stressed that this delay must remain within reasonable and defined timeframes. It should not become an open-ended situation exploited for partisan or personal interests, as this would negatively impact the regular functioning of state institutions and public confidence in the political process.
Fayhan further called on national forces and members of parliament to meet the challenges facing Iraq and its political system by fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities. He emphasized the importance of completing the election of the president during Saturday's session, highlighting the need for adherence to constitutional timelines. This action, he noted, would underscore the commitment to safeguarding the democratic process, enhancing political stability, and ensuring the continuity of state institutions.
