Fears That The Electoral Conflict In Diyala Will Turn Bloody

Baquba The representative from Diyala Governorate, Nahida Al-Daini, called for brining special forces from Baghdad to secure the elections in the hot second district in order to avoid potential clashes.

Al-Daini, the candidate of Azm Alliance, told the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA / today that “the second electoral district in Diyala (Muqdadiya – Baladruz) is the most difficult because there are candidates supported by influential parties, which raises concern about clashes that affect the electoral process and its results and cause damage to candidates seeking to run the elections with transparent and fair.

She added that the success of the elections in the second constituency means its success in all regions of Diyala and crossing an important and fateful stage due to changes in the electoral system and deep-rooted political, regional and clan conflicts.” She called on the government and security authorities to “impose a strict role to secure the elections without pressures or threats that affect the course of the democratic process.”

For his part, media and political activist Ali Al-Hajiya said that the second electoral district in Diyala (Al-Muqdadiya and Baladruz) is more complicated because of the presence of candidates who have political money and armed wings, which were the reason for the rupture of the two largest clans in the district. Pointing out that there is a great popular and social fear that the electoral conflict will turn into a bloody conflict.
