Damascus: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan affirmed that his country is determined to deepen cooperation with Syria in all fields and provide necessary assistance to its government. Fidan made these remarks following his visit to the Syrian capital, Damascus, marking his third visit in nine months since the overthrow of the Assad regime.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan highlighted the progress Syria has made in various areas during his visits. He stressed that Turkey and Syria, under the leadership of Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ahmad al-Sharaa, are committed to enhancing their cooperation across multiple sectors.

Fidan mentioned that his meeting with President al-Sharaa offered an opportunity to discuss several key issues, including trade, investment, transportation, and energy. He noted that they evaluated possible steps at both bilateral and regional levels to aid in the reconstruction of Syria.

The Turkish Minister emphasized that discussions focused particularly on security issues and the threats to Syria’s sovereignty and political unity. He assured that Turkey would continue supporting Syria in its fight against terrorist organizations.

Fidan also expressed Turkey’s readiness to assist the Syrian government with responsibilities related to the management and security of camps in northeastern Syria. He addressed concerns over Israel’s practices targeting Syria, stating that Israel is destabilizing the region and urging the international community to prevent tolerance for such policies.

He further noted that the Syrian people are eager to seize the opportunity to build a better future, and reiterated Turkey’s commitment to supporting their aspirations and legitimate will. Fidan acknowledged the challenges faced by the Syrian government in achieving security, stability, and prosperity, and highlighted the significant support from the international community, including the United States and European countries, to help overcome these challenges.

During his visit, Fidan met with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa as part of a working visit to discuss these important matters and strengthen bilateral ties.
