Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone conversation with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Al-Safadi, on Monday, regarding the situation in Syria. Diplomatic sources at the Turkish Foreign Ministry reported that the two Ministers discussed the ceasefire in southern Syria.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the two Ministers pointed to “efforts to divide Syria” and stressed the need for regional countries to adopt a “common stance” to confront these efforts. Under the pretext of “protecting the Druze,” Israel exploited the situation in Sweida and escalated its aggression against Syria after armed clashes broke out between Bedouin tribes and Druze groups in Sweida on July 13.

At that time, government forces moved into the area to impose security, but were attacked by “outlaw” Druze groups, resulting in the deaths of dozens of soldiers. As part of its efforts to contain the crisis, the Syrian government announced four ceasefire agreements in Sweida, the most recent of which was last Saturday.
