Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov the ongoing efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Diplomatic sources in Ankara reported that the phone call, held last night, also touched upon the summit in Alaska, USA, between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during the call, Fidan expressed his hope that the Alaska talks would pave the way for a comprehensive peace process with Ukraine’s participation, stressing Turkey’s readiness to contribute to achieving peace.

The Putin-Trump summit was held last Friday under the theme ‘Pursuing Peace’ and lasted for about three hours, during which the two leaders discussed the possibility of a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv, as well as bilateral relations.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Saturday that he would travel to Washington on Monday to meet with President Trump, stating that he supports Trump’s proposal to hold a trilateral meeting between the United States, Russia, and Ukraine to discuss ways to end the war.
