Washington: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed the situation in southern Syria with his US counterpart, Marco Rubio. Turkish diplomatic sources stated in a media release that Fidan emphasized, during a phone call with Rubio, the need to end the clashes and restore calm to Syria as soon as possible.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of implementing the understandings reached between the parties in Syria, stressing that Israeli interventions in Syrian territory exacerbate the problem. Fidan stated during the phone call that any attack on Syria’s territorial integrity, unity, and sovereignty also harms regional peace efforts.

Fidan underscored that terrorist organizations will never be allowed to exploit the situation in southern Syria. He expressed Turkey’s support for the constructive US role in Syria, emphasizing Ankara’s readiness to work with Washington and other countries to permanently end the conflict and tension. He stressed that the opportunity to build a future for the Syrian people must not be missed.

The same Turkish sources reported that the talks also addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip and ceasefire negotiations. They added that Fidan reiterated Turkey’s position calling for a permanent ceasefire as soon as possible and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
