Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed developments in Syria, particularly the events in southern Syria, in phone conversations with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad al-Shaibani, and US Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a Turkish Foreign Ministry source stated today that the discussions included an assessment of the results of the recent meetings held in Amman regarding the situation in the southern province of Sweida.

Yesterday, Saturday, the Jordanian capital, Amman, hosted a meeting that included Barak and the foreign ministers of Syria and Jordan. This meeting resulted in an agreement on practical steps to implement a comprehensive ceasefire in the Sweida region.

The Syrian presidency announced a ceasefire in Sweida on Saturday morning between Syrian tribes and Druze factions, calling on all parties to adhere to the agreement under penalty of accountability.

Syrian Interior Ministry Spokesman Noureddine Al-Baba announced yesterday evening the evacuation of all Bedouin tribal fighters from the city of Sweida, and the cessation of clashes in the city’s neighborhoods.
